Counselling For Adults

NECS have helped more than 10000 people to live their life over the last 15 years. Counselling is a process which helps you understand what it is that is causing you to feel low and to think about how to live your life – giving you the tools you need to face challenges in the future.

People need counselling for all sorts of reasons - sometimes it's because you don't want to talk to your family or friends about what you are feeling in case you worry them.  Sometimes you are embarrassed about how you feel.  Talking to someone totally unrelated can really help.  We won't give you advice or tell you what to do, we will help you explore what's happening and come to a decision yourself about what you can change.

Step 1: Take control

1 in 4 people will face stress, anxiety and depression at some point in their lives. Taking control is something which can immediately make you feel better – so if you have been feeling low, stressed or anxious and you want to start living your life again, take the first step and get in touch.

Step 2: Tell your story

NECS knows that having the right counsellor is one of the most important aspects of successful counselling. That’s why your first session is all about you telling your story to a member of our team, who will identify what type of counsellor would be best to help you on your journey.

The first session is an Initial Assessment it lasts for up to 50 minutes and the counsellor will explore your situation with you to establish what you want to get out of counselling. We will also ask about your availability and when it is most convenient for you to have counselling.

Step 3: Start your journey

Once you have had your Initial appointment, you can decide whether to start the counselling process. How long your journey will depend on what brings you to counselling and what you want to achieve. Everyone’s journey is unique to them, but counselling helps you to view things in a different way and even when you finish counselling, your journey to living your life continues.

How much does it cost?

Private 50-minute counselling appointment - £45

NB. This will increase to £50 from 1st October 2023.

Your counsellor has been qualified for a number of years and has experience of working with a broad range of emotional well-being issues, including more complex relational and mental health presentations. These appointments are available all year round.

  • When we receive your referral, you will be contacted to book an Initial Assessment appointment. During this session, you will meet with your counsellor who will gather some background information and begin to explore what has brought you to counselling. At this point they will be able to discuss with you how many sessions they feel are needed to work effectively. This will be reviewed as your counselling progresses

Private 50-minute counselling appointment - £25

An individual appointment with a counsellor in training is priced at £25.  Your counsellor is working towards qualifying as a counsellor and is completing a supervised placement at NECS. Their work involves mild to moderate emotional well-being issues, including depression and anxiety or specific issues that are impacting in the short-term. These appointments are available at certain times during the year and are based on a set number of face to face weekly appointments, usually between 6-12. NB. Currently the sessions are only available at out premises in Blaydon.

  • When we receive your referral, you will be contacted to complete a telephone triage appointment. The purpose of this is to assess whether the issue you are seeking support for is suitable for a counsellor in training to work with. There is no charge for this call.
  • If we are able to go ahead, an Initial Assessment appointment will be booked (£25). During this session, you will meet with your counsellor, who will gather some background information and begin to explore what has brought you to counselling. At this point they will be able to discuss with you how many sessions they feel are needed to work effectively (up to a maximum of 12). This will be reviewed as your counselling progresses. If your reason for seeking counselling isn’t suitable for a counsellor in training, we will discuss other options with you
