Counselling for Families (Adults)

Relationships within families can sometimes become strained. Finances, health, changes in the make-up of the family, and a host of other issues can cause tensions that build up and add pressure to family life. Counselling can help family members to communicate more effectively with each other, resolve issues and improve family relationships.

North East Counselling Services has a team of qualified counsellors with experience in working with families. We offer family counselling appointments on weekdays, including evenings, and on Saturdays.

Experiencing Family Counselling

Sessions are arranged to suit your availability and are normally on the same day and at the same time each week. If, after starting family counselling, you need to change the times or require more flexibility, your counsellor will help to find new times that work for your family.

The number of family members who take part can be from 2 to 5. It is not essential for every member to come to every session.

At the start your counsellor will work with you to understand your needs as a family and what has brought you to counselling. You don’t need to commit to a particular ‘course’ of counselling – the number of family counselling sessions will depend upon your needs.

At intervals, your counsellor will review with your family how you feel things are going. If further appointments would be helpful, your counsellor will explore this with you.

You can choose to pause or end the counselling whenever you wish.

What Our Clients Say About Us

It truly has been an enormous help to us all

These sessions have been a godsend to me at a time in my life when I thought my whole world had fallen apart. It has allowed me to rationalise what has happened and help me to come to terms with it. My counsellor used amazing metaphors and facts to explain what was going on in my head as well as repeating what I had said in his own words which allowed me to reflect on a lot of things both in and out of the sessions. I would not be at that stage of my journey and development if I hadn’t have gotten the counselling at such a critical time. My development has also allowed me to help my 2 children in their trauma and coming to terms with what has happened. It truly has been an enormous help to us all.

We are so grateful for the positive impact counselling has had on our family.

Our family was going through a rough patch. Communication was strained and we were constantly arguing. Family counselling provided us with the tools and guidance we needed to improve our communication and resolve conflicts more effectively. We learned to listen to each other with empathy and respect, and our relationships are much stronger now. We are so grateful for the positive impact counselling has had on our family.
