Stress in the workplace – can counselling help my business?
Stress in the workplace
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) have established that 13.1 million days at work are lost every year due to stress, depression and anxiety. This has an estimated cost to British industry of between £7.7 and £11.1 billion, with the average absence being 26.5 days. Not all absences are due to stress in the workplace – home life can often spill over into what happens at work and result in problems at work.
Small and medium employers can be disproportionately affected if one person goes off sick with stress – if you have 10 employees and 1 is away for a long period of time, then you may need to bring in other people to cover or the remaining employees take up the slack, potentially leading to more absence. Accessing support as early as possible with a quick intervention is most effective – that is why it is important that staff get support to prevent stress happening, in addition, to support once they are feeling unwell.
What services can NECS Works offer to support my staff?
We can create a tailor-made service for your organisation, using a wide range of tools eg workshops to help people understand and prevent stress and one-to-one, employee counselling. We can use a mixture of group and individual employee support to give staff the help they need across a stepped system so they get the right level of support at the right time.
For managers, we can help them build up their resilience with workshops. We can also deliver individual or group supervision to help them to deal with the difficulties of managing their team particularly when emotional issues arise.
We can also provide a team of counsellors to help you in a crisis situation – e.g. if a member of staff dies, or there is an accident at work.
You could either pay for the support your staff need, or provide a subsidised service for them. We will only charge you for the hours your staff uses. There is no monthly subscription.
