Hi, I’m Steph and I joined NECS in September 2013, where I started out as a trainee counsellor working with adults.
I then worked in both a voluntary capacity and as an associate counsellor, before becoming a contracted member of staff.
Alongside this, I ran a School Counselling Service at a local high school for four years. I now work with adults, young people and couples, as well as providing supervision for other counsellors.
I am a trauma-informed counsellor, so witnessing people’s stories and helping them to understand the things that have happened is a key part of the work we do. I’ve found building a strong therapeutic relationship to be important, as that way clients feel more able to open up and say what they need to say.
I often take a creative approach to problems, either by using story cards, Lego, creating artwork, or simply just working with a balloon.
On a self-care day, you’ll either find me up a big hill, listening to podcasts, or sending my friends little voice notes.
