Heather joined the NECS board, as chair, in December 2020 and brings a wide range of skills and experience to the role.
She has over twenty-five years experience within the field of economic development, working at a local, regional and national level to develop and implement policies and services to increase employment, enterprise and economic inclusion.
Since retiring, as the lead for employment, skills and inclusion for Gateshead Council, Heather has remained active in this field on a voluntary basis in a variety of roles with the aim of helping those most in need of support and addressing economic inequality.
The main driver that has underpinned everything Heather has done is a genuine enthusiasm and commitment to make a real difference in people's lives. She aims to bring that enthusiasm and commitment along with skills in stakeholder engagement, bid strategy management, business planning and contract management to steer the strategic and business development of NECS, ensuring it continues to go from strength to strength.
